Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark movie review

This movie (Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark) doesn’t focus on making audience startle. In stead of that, producers filmed this with gruesome and obsession scenes like what you saw in the trailer.

In the movie, a group of kids found out an abandoned house in the carnival, then a girl stole a book from that house, brought it home and read it. And the more reading it, the more she is scared because the book is writing the new chapter by itself, and everyone in the group is becoming characters in the book and be mysteriously lost.

The story of the movie is not just carefully created, but also the film rhythm is super connected, making the movie flow is really smooth. Khen Phim tried to calculate and found out that the main of the movie is about 100 minutes, and plus 6 more minutes for credit, this is movie runtime in Vietnam. What you’ll see in the theater will be consistent without feeling stunned by censorship, which clearly proves that the publisher has announced that the movie in Vietnam passed through censorship without cutting any seconds. The ending also got approval from audience because its kinda simple. And in fact, this is more than fine because the ghost’s purpose is just simple like that, not complicated.

Not just about horror, but also Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark got some messages about environment and political too. Its not weird if you hear a lot of “ Vietnam ” words in the movie repeated again and again, matching with the background in 1968. In the movie, you can see some of the rich families own companies with risk of environment destruction. Its like a remind of disasters that our generations have to face in the future.

Back to the haunting scenes in Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, Khen Phim can say that the thrilling in this movie is not excellence, beacause the stories are getting attractive only when lights in police station are off and “strange objects” started falling down from the chimney. Graphics of ghost in the movie is not so disgust. Like the tittle, almost the scenes in the movie were filmed in the night, its so dark outside and all the lights are off so you can clearly feel the horror. I think that you should watch this in the new cinemas, or with Onyx screen to have the clear vision in the dark. Sound effects are not so much good in this movie so its okay if youre gonna watch this in the normal screen.

It’s incomplete if we don’t talk about the cast of the movie because they finished a really good job giving audience the balance between the main story and acting skills. Shouting, laughing or the terror are not just so real but also haunt weak mental people. Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark will satisfy almos audience who wants to enjoy a movie that is scary and logic.
